Sustainable travel means finding a way that tourism can be maintained long-term without harming natural and cultural environments. Sustainable travel should minimise the negative impacts of tourism and ideally be beneficial to the area in which it takes place.
It it a well know fact that Cinque Terre has suffered due to mass-tourism. The trails in Cinque Terre have become frail and the cultural environment has began to shift.
by offering private tours and treks we limit the footprint on the local environment
we raise awareness of the local history and culture
we use less traveled trails and roads
we encourage travelers to stay in the local villages to avoid unnecessary commutes
we educate about the local history and ways of life.
we use public transportation only.
One way of becoming more sustainable is learning from our past, to learn about how sustainable people of Cinque Terre were throughout history. On our treks you will learn about how the people of Cinque Terre made use of what the land had to offer, from using the broom plant that grows natively all around the vineyards to tie the vines to using old bed-springs for gates and many more things you will learn as you walk through the hills of Cinque Terre.
Hopefully, this will encourage people to learn from our past and live a more sustainable life.
There are many organizations that try to preserve Cinque Terre’s cultural heritage:
RADICI - ASSOCIAZIONE CULTURALE
was founded in Manarola in 2018 with the aim to preserve the cultural heritage of Cinque Terre.
